Blogs should be used as a venue for open exchange

It’s been four years since small businesses and large corporations have began to use blogging as a method of marketing. Since then, blogs have garnered an international audience, and is now the main component of any internet marketing campaign. For most internet marketers, the essence of blogging is timeliness, transparency and the willingness to discuss issues which are on the minds of customers and potential clients. In a sense, blogging had the spirit of dialogue and open exchange.

In this time of financial turmoil, how many companies have used their blogs to explain to their customers their state of affairs? How many company owners have used their blogs to discuss about the issue at hand and the possible solutions? The B2B magazine, one of the leading resources for people who wish to engage in an online business, visited the company blogs of 20 of the top most companies in the US to see which of them are tackling the issue of financial meltdown and the deepening economic recession?

Of these 20, only 2 have attempted to analyze the situation – PriceWarehouseCoppers and Benetton. Of the 20 top companies, only Southwest Airlines have mentioned the Wall Street situation.

This comes as a shock as the internet has served as a major source of information in recent years. People are already feeling the pressure, what’s there to hide?
