Ever heard of drop catches?

Did you know that a lot of people actually forget to renew their domains? Picking up these expired domains will get you remaining traffic from domains or people who have bookmarked the site. There are cases when traffic is pretty high but you will need to be fast enough to replace the copyrighted content so you don’t get sued. There are a couple of people who actually do this for a business.

A variation of the strategy above: you can sell the domain back to its original owner. Of course you can’t go sending emails that looks like a ransom note – make sure you review the small print in the UDRP especially with domains that end in .com since most top level domains are protected by law. The big money comes in if you are sitting hostage on myspace.com or the equivalent of these sites on blogger, mybloglog and other big destinations. Several major players forget to protect their brand name and several associated directories can actually bring you lots of traffic just for owning a domain related  to these major players. In this case, no UDRP is required and you don’t even have to pay for this! You will definitely get profit one way or another.
